The Alchemy of Art

Blog entry 1.

10/7/22 Whether you’re new to art or have been practicing for several decades, as I have, I’m sure we can all benefit from the shared insights and ideas of other artists. That is the purpose of this blog. Although I have been doing this for a long time, sporadically when more pressing issues presented themselves, I don’t presume to share my thoughts with the public in the role of an instructor or authority on the various topics I may be ruminating on. As most of us are aware, the word blog is simply a contraction of the words web log, i.e. a journal that is open to the public.

In this online forum I hope to develop a more consistent output of art by sharing the projects that I’m working on, the trials of creativity, and all the marginalia of artistic ambition. I’d like to break out of my shell and see if I can form connections with some of the innumerable pilgrims who share this journey with me. While many of us may have difficulty in sharing our inner life with others I hope you will come to realize that we can better achieve our personal ambitions by sharing our experiences with like minded individuals.

Creative discipline is about personal growth more than the merchandise you can crank out for an adoring public. The output is the byproduct of an inner evolution and we mustn’t let the opinions of others put roadblocks in our path. We don’t compete with others in our field, we compete with ourselves and I think if we can internalize this understanding perhaps we can create things that are truly original.
