Conjuring imagery

After many years of planning out my pictures by doodling little thumbnail sketches with pencil and occasional color schemes added. I’ve decided to try a different approach to develop painting ideas. I’m still working on a small scale but I print out patterns and textures from a laser printer and arrange some of the these fragments into small collages. This way of working helps me visualize new possibilities and I can see where it might take my work in a new direction. By incorporating the shading and giving more depth to the picture I envision some surrealistic or alien landscapes in future paintings. Some of these images offer exciting possibilities and I’m anxious to get started with paint on canvas. Here are some samples:
